Jackson-Reed High School, one of the most competitive public or private high school teams in the DMV area, looks to build on their 28-8 record from last season. After back-to-back District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) championship appearances, Coach David Johnson enters his third year as head coach with a solid core of returning players. His squad expects to compete for the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association and DCSAA championship titles.
The Tigers return junior 6’9 forward Jayden Fort (with offers from Xavier University, George Washington University, Texas A&M University, East Carolina University, and the University of Rhode Island, among others), senior guard 6’4 Lucas Sekasi (with offers from Sacred Heart University, West Liberty University, and Gannon University), senior guard 5’11 Joseph Mcrae and senior guard 6’0 Justin Gilmore. With the key additions of senior guard 6’5 Scottie Hubbard and junior forward 6’5 Josiah Massaquoi (with offers from American University, Howard University, and Mt. St Mary's University) the Tigers look to put together a big year.
In addition to the Gonzaga DC Classic, Jackson-Reed will compete in the Arby’s Classic in Bristol, Tenn., during the Christmas break and play a demanding out-of-conference schedule. Highlights include contests at the St. James MLK Classic at Bowie State University, Bowie, Md., January 12-15, and at the IMG Ascender Classic at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, January 19-20.
Since opening in 1936, Jackson-Reed High School has consistently been one of Washington D.C.’s premier public high schools. Today, Jackson-Reed is the largest public high school in the District, and home to a diverse student population from across the city, defined by tolerance, acceptance, and academic rigor. The school remains committed to its mission: to build a safe, supportive, and welcoming community of dedicated and self-reflective learners, equipped to joyfully embrace opportunities for growth on the path of active citizenship
Jackson-Reed strives to make decisions based on student learning. The school offers college level courses in 30 advanced placement subject areas, multiple honors-level courses, and courses in engineering and biomedicine. Seven different academies, with over 850 Jackson-Reed Scholars enrolled, are essential in helping guide and focus students' specific academic interests.
More than 90% of Jackson-Reed graduates attend college. Last year’s class received acceptance offers from over 200 colleges, universities, and junior colleges across 41 states and the District of Columbia and offered over $28 million in scholarships.
The school offers something for every student, with opportunities to compete in 35 junior varsity and varsity team sports for boys and girls, and to participate in more than 40 different clubs and activities. The recently modernized eight-acre, seven-building campus was awarded LEED certification and Green Ribbon School status. Jackson-Reed is located in the Tenleytown neighborhood of the District
