The Maret School from Washington, D. C. is making its first appearance in the Gonzaga DC Classic. The Frogs play in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC) and finished a successful 2023-24 campaign with a 19-11 record and played in the MAC Championship Game.
The Frogs are led by Coach Chuck Driesell who is entering his tenth season. Under Coach Driesell, Maret has found inordinate success both in wins and player development. Maret has been a championship team and sent numerous players to the Division I level, most notably Luka Garza, a two-time Naismith Award winner at Iowa and current member of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 2024 Maret squad has battled adversity even before the season started. Their returning All-League and All-State point guard and leading scorer, DJ Hill, has sustained a season ending football injury. For the 2024-25 season, Maret will rely on young leaders and playmakers to fill the void, and the coaching staff thinks this is a squad that will surprise many as the season unfolds.
“This season is a great opportunity for our team and players collectively. We are truly grateful and excited to be participating in the 35th Annual Gonzaga DC Classic,” says Coach Driesell. “It has always been considered to be one of the top tournaments in the region, and we look forward to the challenge ahead and to competing with this talented field.”

Maret School is a coeducational, non-sectarian K-12 independent school in Washington, D.C. Originally founded by Marthe Maret and her sisters Louise and Jeanne in 1911 as the Maret French School and later became the Maret School. In 1952, the current campus opened at 3000 Cathedral Ave., NW.
Maret ignites our students' potential, fosters their academic, artistic and athletic talents and promotes their well-being. Students graduate from Maret well equipped to excel in future academic endeavors and to lead confident and fulfilling lives in an ever-changing world.
Maret belongs to The Independent School League (ISL) and the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC). Girls compete in the ISL and boys in the MAC. Our youngest students begin by developing their abilities in a variety of games and learn the importance of good sportsmanship. In seventh grade they participate in interscholastic sports, becoming effective team players, so that by the time they reach Upper School, the Fighting Frogs are a force in the many competitive varsity and junior varsity sports that Maret offers.
Maret's student body consists of 650 students. 53% of students and 41% of faculty identify as People of Color. 68% of faculty hold advanced degrees. 25% of students receive financial aid.
The school motto is: Noscere Vivere Est – “To Learn is to Live”
Maret is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington, and the Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools.
