The Episcopal Knights of Houston start the 2018-19 basketball season as the reigning runners up in the 2017-18 Southwest Preparatory Conference tournament. The Knights were SPC champions in 1995, 1996, and 2013.
The Knights, under the leadership of Wayne Jones, have been a staple in the SPC Championship game. They won their first championship in over 16 years in 2013 and have been in the championship game five out of six years under Coach Jones. Besides their 2013 winning campaign, the Knights have overachieved in advancing to the conference finals. It has taken NBA lottery picks and teams with players that are playing in power five conferences to derail the Knight’s quests.
The Knights have consistently been ranked as one of the top private school basketball teams in Texas, pre and post season. This year’s Knights are ranked the #2 preseason private school in Texas and #4 in the greater Houston area, no matter the classification. Coach Jones has had at least two players to go on and play college basketball each year during his tenure at Episcopal, and two are playing professionally.
