The Abington Galloping Ghosts are making their first appearance in the Gonzaga DC Classic. Entering its ninety-seventh year on the basketball court, the Abington Ghosts will begin their 2018-2019 season as two time defending District One Champions, and winners of three titles in the last four seasons. Head Coach Charles Grasty, a 1990 Graduate of Abington Senior High School, begins his ninth year at the helm with a career record of 169 wins and 54 defeats! Under Coach Grasty’s leadership, the Ghosts have won six straight Suburban One League (S.O.L) titles, which is an ASHS record, as well as, three Class 6A district titles in 2015, 2017, and 2018. The Ghosts have also reached the Pennsylvania State Playoffs six times, including a state semifinals appearance in 2014. After playing in the Suburban One National League for the last twenty years, the Abington Ghosts will compete in the American League at the start of the 2018-2019 season.

The Abington Ghosts has three returning starters from last season’s District One Champions and State Quarterfinalist team. Senior Eric Dixon, ESPN four-star Top 75 and No. 21 Center nationally, is entering his final year as the third-leading scorer in Abington Senior High School history with 1,616 points. Dixon is currently third on the school’s All-Time scoring list, finishing his junior year with 672 points. Dixon averaged 24 points per game and 9.5 rebounds in twenty-eight games played last season. The 6 foot 8 Center has committed to Villanova University. Xavier (Lucas) Monroe is a 6 foot 6 Guard who is fourth on the school’s All-Time list, with 304 career assists. Last year, Monroe averaged 12.3 points per game and scored 369 points. Monroe has committed to University of Pennsylvania, members of the Ivy League. Although he averaged just 3.3 points per game during the 2017-2018 season, Darious Brown helped the Ghosts win by draining four three-point field goals in the 66-61 Pennsylvania State Sweet Sixteen game against St. Joseph’s Prep. Brown is also a member of the last two District Championship teams playing for Abington. He will be an integral player in the upcoming season.

The Ghosts finished the 2017-2018 season with a 24-6 record, and look forward to an electrifying debut season in the American League.
